Dr. Lokesh Shivakumaraiah (Year 2009-2010)

lokeshDr. Lokesh Shivakumaraiah is the Interim Data and Technology Manager, and Coordinator of International Student Recruitment in the Office of Admissions and Scholarships at Mississippi State University. He also teaches at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at MSU on a need basis. His research interest is engineering education, asynchronous integrated chip design and international student affairs.

Dr. Lokesh, a native of Bangalore, India received both his Masters and Doctorate degree at Mississippi State University in the field of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering respectively. He enjoys working with the students. His students have found him to be a positive, caring and technically competent instructor resulting in routine positive student evaluations. He was nominated for 2007 Bagley College of Engineering Academy of Distinguished Teachers, 2007 National Society Collegiate Scholars Inspire Integrity Award and awarded the “2001 Teaching Assistant of the Year award” by Mississippi State University for his dedication to teaching. He is also a recipient of the Barrier Graduate Engineering Scholarship (2002-03, 2004-06).

During his studies at MSU, he also took part actively in student life activities. He has over six years experience in improving international student life at MSU in various capacities. He has provided leadership to solicit funds in excess of $51,000.00 from within and outside the University and to promote international and multi-cultural activities aimed to develop interaction between local and international community. He has served as the Director of International Student Affairs for MSU Student Government Association, President of India Student Association, and President and founder of the MSU Cricket Club providing leadership to address the issues of international students and their family in Starkville. His leadership roles have been recognized by the University through 2006 MSU Diversity Award, 2006 Spirit of State Award and 2005-06 Student Association Cabinet Member of the Year Award. With his involvement in student life activities he has expanded what has normally been considered as the dominant culture student development theory in higher education to the global dimension of international engineering student development model called the “Maroon Model” published in international conference papers.

His long term hobbies include drawing, painting and sketching. He is very passionate about cricket. He likes cooking Indian cuisine, water sports (rafting, speed boat and jet-ski) and community service. He is currently serving as the 1st Vice-President of Starkville Multi-Cultural Lion’s Club (SMC) – a service oriented club that brings together both the local and international students and family for community service projects to answer the needs of Starkville community.
