Udbhav

To new students, Welcome! And to returning ones, Welcome back!
Udbhav is celebrated every year, and this event marks the first event in our calender of events. Through this event, we look forward in welcoming new students to MSU.
This event is geared towards welcoming all students, as they begin their first semester for the following academic year.
Udbhav 2011 was not just a event, it was the day when many new students met each other. There was also a Indain classical dance performance by Purva Bapat, Priyanka Gadre, Nishi Sunthwal and Nandita Gupta. There was the customary 'fasion show' in which all the new members walked the ramp. Suchit Saliyan was chosen as Mr ISA and Gita Ramakrishnan was chosen as Miss ISA. Dinner was served and the event was a great success.
This year, we again look forward to welcoming you to Udbhav 2012! With lots of fun, food and entertainment, we hope to see you all there!

Deepostav

'Deepotsav' litrally means 'celebration with lights'. Every year ISA organizes this event around the time of Diwali, a Hindu festival celebtrated with a lot of fervor in India.
Diwali is also known as the festival of lights, and is one of the biggest and brightest of all festivals celebrated in India. There are various legends pointing to the origin of Diwali or 'Deepawali.' Some believe it to be the celebration of the marriage of Lakshmi with Lord Vishnu. On the other hand,in Bengal this festival is dedicated to the worship of Mother Kali, the dark goddess of strength. Diwali also commemorates the return of Lord Rama along with Sita and Lakshman from his fourteen year long exile and vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. In joyous celebration of the return of their king, the people of Ayodhya, the Capital of Rama, illuminated the kingdom with earthen diyas (oil lamps) and burst crackers. But, in each legend, myth and story of Deepawali lies the significance of the victory of good over evil, and it is with each Deepawali and the lights that illuminate our homes and hearts, that this simple truth finds new reason and hope.
ISA celebtrates Deepotsav here at MSU as well. We did not get the opportunity to burst fire crackers, but around this time, one can observe quite a few lamps that are lit outside few homes. Some people also put up lanterns, and that festive atmosphere is contagious.
Deepotsav has various cultural events like dance performances, singing and so on. In 2011, it was celebtrated with a lot of joy, entertainment and enthusiasm. Dinner was served, and many favorite Indian varieties formed a part of the menu.
We hope that this following year brings in many colors of joy as we celebtrate Deepotsav again!

International Fiesta 2012

‘The International Fiesta’, took place on 31st March, and portrayed various cultures around the globe. the event's main purpose is to exemplify the various communities present at MSU and it was quite interesting to see how different cultures around the globe were presented on that particular day on the Drill Field at MSU.
There was also a International Fiesta Pageant that was held, and Gita Ramakrishnan, one of the Indian students on campus, was crowned Miss International Fiesta.
Food was also served, and everyone represented their individual coountries. The event was great success, and everyone appreciated the Indian food served at the fiesta. We served Indian varities like Cholle and jeeera rice, and the all time favorite - Paneer. Dessert consisted of Jalebi. We also potrayed the Indian culture and some aspects of the Indian system. Everyone at the ISA table was dressed in Indian clothes. Also, different coins, stamps and Indian currency were on showcase at the ISA table, along with various ID proofs that form a part of Indian life back in India. I'm sure this event not only brought back memories of our nation, but also added new memories of how different cultures around the world could be!
All in all, it was a amazing expereince, and we look forward to the next Internaitonal Fiesta, and hope to add much more to the next event!
